Edit the Plan Directly with Ctrl+G
When Claude presents a plan, the usual options are to accept it or to type corrections and wait for a revised plan.
There is a third option: press Ctrl+G to open the plan in your text editor for direct editing before Claude proceeds.
Why it is worth it
Section titled “Why it is worth it”Small corrections (“drop step 4”, “use the existing helper”, “rename the flag”) are faster to make by hand than to describe. Each round of “please change the plan” costs a full model turn and adds more text to the context.
Editing directly:
- Costs no tokens.
- Keeps the plan wording exactly as you want it.
- Avoids Claude “helpfully” rewriting parts you did not mention.
Workflow
Section titled “Workflow”- Ask for a plan in plan mode.
- Press
Ctrl+G. The plan opens in your configured editor. - Edit, save, and close.
- Approve the plan. Claude implements the edited version.
Ctrl+G also works on the prompt input itself, which is handy for long multi-line prompts.
